Two coastguard teams, the RNLI and the ambulance service were tasked to help a man who had dislocated his knee on the coast.

On Saturday afternoon, just after 2pm, emergency services received reports of a 40-year-old man who had dislocated his knee on Abbotsbury Beach.

The South Western Ambulance Service was aware of the incident and responding, but West Bay Coastguard officers were tasked to assess and loo after the man until paramedics arrived.

Wyke Regis Coastguard, which was patrolling the area to the east, was also tasked to respond.

A spokesman for West Bay Coastguard said: "West Bay officers arrived on scene just after the Wyke team and they worked together to assess, monitor and reassure the casualty on what was a very hot day.

"The coastguard officer in charge requested the RNLI Lyme Regis lifeboat to provide pain relief to the casualty and they launched shortly after. As the lifeboat was approaching, a land ambulance arrived on scene and the coastguard officers handed over care to the paramedics.

"Once pain relief had been administered, the dislocated knee was reduced, splinted and the casualty was stretchered to the waiting ambulance.

"We wish the casualty a full and speedy recovery.

"Have a fantastic time at the coast this summer, but if you find yourself in difficulty or you see something that gives you cause for concern, then do not hesitate, dial 999 and ask for the coastguard."
