Have you read all your books, finished everything on TV or had your fill of Zoom quizzes? Don't despair!

It might feel like there's nothing to look forward to in lockdown three, but Bridport's Lyric Theatre has launched Story Windows, a creative project for everyone to get their teeth into over the next few weeks from the comfort of your home.

The team at The Lyric invites residents to create a display based on, or inspired by, their favourite book to put in their window to enjoy and others to see.

These 3D scenes are known as 'dioramas' and can be as simple or as complicated as you like, using materials found around the house - Bridport Arts and Crafts is still taking orders over the phone.

A spokesman for The Lyric Theatre said: "It should be fun to see other people's displays while out on a walk around town and guess which books they are from.

"You may recall - and have taken part in - The Lyric's Portrait Challenge that ran in the summer. Over five weeks, Bridport's streets became an art gallery as portraits popped up of people's loved ones in their windows and in shop windows, spreading a smile to passers-by.

"The Story Windows project's aims are the same - to bring joy to both makers and viewers of the scenes.

"This is a project for all ages, and no experience is necessary. Let your imagination be your limit and challenge yourself to create something beyond what you thought you were capable of. Create more than one if you like.

"The Lyric will share examples of dioramas to inspire and start you off, and hopefully some Bridport shopkeepers will feel inspired to join in and maybe share top tips on how they design their shop window displays."

The Lyric staff hope this project will bring you excitement and creative fulfilment during the dark evenings.

If you don't have a street-facing window, why not take part anyway and share your creations with the world on social media. Perhaps you might make a little film of it. Consider the lighting for it to illuminate your scene after dark - dig out those Christmas tree lights you've just packed away!

Let's bring our windows and favourite books to life and spread joy out in our community.
