Doc Martin actor and West Dorset resident is bringing a big dose of sunshine to a local children's hospice charity.

Martin Clunes is selling sunflowers grown in his fields in Beaminster to raise money for Julia's House, for which he is a patron.

The sunflowers will be available from local florists and farm shops with the proceeds helping Julia's House continue its life-changing care for seriously ill children and families in the local community.

Martin said: "The last two years have been so weird and difficult for everyone and every charity I know is struggling with so many of their usual fundraising activities limited or destroyed.

"It's hard to imagine now the giant Buckham Fair - 16,000 people at the last one, along with their dogs and ponies. The fields are still up there with their beautiful views across Beaminster and out to sea.

"This year I have planted six acres of giant sunflowers and I'm going to sell them to raise money for Julia's House. We've never done anything like this before.

"Stick them in your garden or on your window sill and the birds will go nuts for the seeds."

Sunflowers are available from Framptons butchers, Washingpool Farm Shop and Rise Bakery in Bridport.

Martin also appeared on BBC's The One Show last night (Monday) and talked about selling the sunflowers in venues across Bridport and Beaminster, as well as TV series Doc Martin.
