Bridport walk of the week: Bothenhampton loop with beautiful views

By Lottie Welch

23rd Jun 2021 | Local News

Every week we will be sharing a circular walk in and around our local area with directions and photos. We use the OS Map app, which is very useful if you are out walking.

If you subscribe to our newsletter, you will be able to receive the walk first every Friday and be able to enjoy it over the weekend.

This week's walk is around Bothenhampton and is just over three miles, taking around one hour and 10 minutes. The ground is very uneven and rocky in places.

Starting at Bothenhampton play area, walk down the lane next to it so it is on your left. Stay on this lane and you will get to Bothenhampton Nature Reserve.

Go through the gate into the reserve and continue straight, going up the hill past the information board.

Go through the gate and turn left with the path and when it joins another path, turn left. A little way on the right is a bench and a lovely view of West Bay.

Continue along the path and go through the metal gate following the path up the hill passing a bench on your right, which also has a fantastic view of the coastline.

Go through the metal gate into the next field and continue straight along the edge of the field and go through another gate continuing along the path. Continue until you get to a left-hand turn and go down it - Milvers Lane - going past Bennetts Hill Farm on your left.

Continue straight past farm buildings. It can be very muddy along this lane. Continue until it bends to the right but go down a small rocky path to the left, just before the gate ahead of you.

Continue along this path and go through the gate into the field. Skirt around the trees and bushes, keeping them on your left and go through the gate in the left-hand corner. The ground is very uneven here so please do take care.

Where the path meets the road, bear right onto Long Lane and follow it, sweeping right at Marrowbone Lane and you will walk down to the start of the walk.

This walk is just a suggestion, you can of course take any different routes you wish to make it more direct or make it longer. Always take extra care where the ground is uneven or wet.
