Can you help this worthwhile project? Branden's Trail is in need of some supplies

Local News by Lottie Welch 2nd Nov 2021

Despite the delays and difficulties caused by Covid, enthusiasm and determination to complete a tribute to a little boy who died of cancer have not been curbed.

Work continues on Branden's Trail at Bridport Primary School - which includes a sensory garden and therapy trail - to commemorate Branden Wayland, who died of cancer at five-years-old and transform his memorial into a legacy of support for other children facing difficult issues in their lives.

The project has received a lot of support from the community but needs a little bit of extra help.

Project partner Bridport Arts Centre has been working with children through their youth engagement officer, Bryony Moores O'Sullivan. Together with local artists Theadora Brazier and Imi Naylan, they have produced designs for a mural for Branden's Trail, packed full of ideas from the school children. Endless ideas, but not enough paint to make it all happen.

Bryony said: "What we need is exterior wood primer - preferably white - vibrant wall paint colours, acrylic paint and MSA varnish or similar.

"We would really appreciate some help with this."

If you happen to have anything you could donate to the project, either take it to the Bridport Town Council offices at Mountfield, c/o Daryl Chambers, or email [email protected] or call 01308 423767 for collection.

In the meantime, members of Bridport Gardening Club have set to work with planting the first batch of sensory plants and flowers for Branden's Trail.

Everything has been donated by project supporters. The wooden planters, including in-built seating, have been created and installed by town surveyor, Daryl Chambers, and his team.

Branden's Trail has been named the town council's 'community project of the year' and also has a distant partner in 'Green Legacy Hiroshima', which aims to share the seeds of trees thought to have been destroyed by the bombing in 1945.
