More than 60 people were able to enjoy Christmas lunch with others in Bridport, rather than spend it alone.

Peter Wilson, Bridport Local Food Group committee member and organiser of the weekly Garden Glut and Food Surplus Stall, and Sue Herman, who runs Hopeful Hampers and is secretary at Bridport United Church, joined forces to provide dinner on Christmas Day for people living in social isolation, not only to enable them to enjoy a Christmas lunch, but to have the company of others.

Peter Wilson said: "Christmas is hailed as the most wonderful time of the year, but if you are on your own it can be the most lonely, so when I heard that the usual Christmas lunch at the United Church may have to be cancelled due to lack of volunteer support, I was only too delighted to step in to offer my help to organise."

The Christmas lunch of roast turkey with all the trimmings was prepared and cooked by outside caterer and fellow Bridport Local Food Festival committee member, Giles Smith.

The stuffing and veggie option was provided by the Red Brick Café with the ingredients supplied for free or at a reduced rate by Washingpool Far, Red Brick Café, Hive Beach Café, Rawles Butchers and Morrisons.

Lunch was provided for free or for a donation and donations were also received from Bridport United Church, Christian Fellowship and A J Wakely & Son.

The Christmas lunch was enjoyed by more than 60 people, including some of the helpers. Lots of lovely comments were received about the food and the atmosphere, with many wanting to come back next year.
