You may have noticed some changes to the fitness suite at Bridport Leisure Centre recently.

The gym is being fitted with new equipment to take the leisure centre into the future and replaced the old equipment that has been there for 11 years.

"What we're finding is members' requirements, what's available, new trends, new styles of training have all cropped up since then and we obviously want to be the place to be in Bridport. We recognise we need to make some investment in our facilities to improve what we've got and add further products."

The current gym has been relocated to parts of the sports hall and work has already started with hopes the new fitness suite will be completed by November 15.

"The fitness suite is going to go through an upgrade, every piece of equipment up there will be upgraded, working with Technogym.

"We've also created a dedicated group cycling studio, which we didn't have before, and that will allow us to offer instructor led classes, virtual classes and also classes that the member wants to do on their own.

"We're converting one of our squash courts into a Skillx studio, which is a Technogym concept. It is a functioning circuit room with power racks and a lot of the Technogym Skill range, like treadmills, bikes, rowers and free weights. We're going to be one of the only centres in the UK to deliver that Skillex complex.

"It's a positive for us moving forward so people can continue to enjoy the facility."

Staff will try and keep disruptions to a minimum and when the new facility opens, will be on hand to help and educate members adapt their programmes and workouts.

The leisure centre is almost back to running how it did before the coronavirus pandemic struck, including changing rooms and showers being back open. Fitness classes are going ahead - which must be booked in advance - and users of the gym are asked to book an arrival time but there is not a time limit on using the gym.
