More than 1,600 people have signed a petition to save a beloved annual event and to 'keep the Bridport torches burning'.
The popular torchlight festival, organised by the Bridport Carnival Committee, is at risk of stopping as permission to close the A35 at the Crown roundabout, to allow the procession to make its way from Bucky Doo Square to West Bay, will no longer be given.
It is the spectacular finale to the town's carnival week, and as such, if the event were to no longer go ahead, the carnival would not be viable.
