All welcome at Open Farm Sunday events near Bridport

Open Farm Sunday events will be held at Denhay Farm in Broadoak, near Bridport, on Sunday, June 11 from 10am to 4pm.

The event is being hosted by the Melplash Agricultural Society, Marshwood Vale Farmers' Cluster and Coppet Hill, and is open to all and is free to attend. 

A full programme of informative and fun activities has been organised to give visitors of all ages an opportunity to learn more about farming and the countryside.

These will include:

  • Go on a farm tour, via tractor and trailer
  • Get up close to Jersey cows, Portland and Dorset Horn sheep, Saddleback pigs, chickens and pigmy goats all on display and some to pet
  • Learn about soil health and what crops are grown on the farm
  • Spot and learn about the wildlife around the farm
  • Find out about how to keep bees, hedgelaying and other rural skills
  • Visit Discover Farming, packed with hands on food to farm activities for children
  • Picnic area with local food and drink refreshments available

There will also be displays by Dorset AONB, Dorset Wildlife Trust, Dorset Farming, Wildlife and Advisory Group, Bridport Bird Group, Wessex Water and others.

Melplash Agricultural Society chairman, Philip Hardwill, said: "The Melplash Agricultural Society are delighted to be a part of the Open Farm Sunday event at Denhay Farm. Enabling members of the public to learn more about how their food is produced and the many ways in which farmers are striving to care for their soil and the environment around us, is a priority for our society." 

The event will be held at Denhay Farm in Broadoak, near Bridport (DT6 5NW).
