The Allington Hillbillies took part in Bridport Carnival Procession on Saturday and will have a stand at the Melplash Show this year to promote its 'Pollinator's Paradise' project.

Through an initiative on the back of the popular BBC series Wild Isles, the Hillbillies have raised £3,510 which they are using to enhance their ongoing project to improve the diversity of Coopers Wood on the Hill, in Bridpot.

The Hillbillies will be introducing more early spring woodland flora, including native snowdrops, daffodils, wood anemones and primroses, throughout the wood.

This will provide pollen and nectar from early February to late April and greatly benefit the pollinators who would ordinarily be lacking in pollen sources.

Pollen is not only an important food source for insects but also provides protein and other nutrients to birds and mammals.

You will be able to find the Allington Hillbillies in the been tent at Melplash Show on Thursday, August 24, where they will be happy to tell you more about the project and how it can benefit the whole community, young and old.
