Bridport Bowling Club has had a welcome boost with a £500 donation.

The donation comes from developers McCarthy Stone, which is building the Gordon Court retirement complex on Flood Lane, and will help fund new bowling green ditch mats.

Cheryl and Malcolm Mackenzie, from Bridport Bowling Club, said: "We are thrilled to receive such a kind donation from McCarthy Stone.

"With a history stretching back 100 years, we value our place within the Bridport community, and support from local businesses plays an important role in keeping our club running.

"We are so pleased we are able to make these vital improvements to the bowling green with the funding, and we look forward to welcoming back all our members with an enhanced experience.

"We encourage anyone who is interested in joining us, to get in contact through our website and come along to see if they enjoy a new sport."

Gordon Court is currently under construction and will include a range of 38 one and two bedroom apartments.

Verity McKay, divisional marketing manager for McCarthy Stone Southern, said: "Here at McCarthy Stone, we appreciate our responsibilities go further than building high-quality retirement apartments - we also seek to create a positive legacy in the communities in which we build.

"Bridport Bowling Club recognises the importance of bringing local people together to enjoy sporting and social activities, which is more important now than ever before after such a challenging 16 months.

"It was an absolute pleasure to present the donation to the bowling club, and all of us here at McCarthy Stone wish the club every success with its ongoing commitment to promote and foster the game of bowls."
