Bridport Carnival will be crowning its royal party for 2023 this week.

Those who feel they could represent the town during this year's carnival events, which will be held from August 12 to 20, and are aged between 8 and 16 years, are invited to attend an event at The Ivy House on Sunday, June 25 at 4pm, with an accompanying adult.

The judges observe entrants working on a fun activity, learning a fun dance and having a friendly chat before the royal party is announced!

The winner, along with two attendants, will be centre of attention on the Bridport Carnival Royalty float during the procession on Saturday, August 19, and again leading the iconic torchlight procession on Sunday, August 20.

It's easy to enter – just send your age and contact details to Jane Boulay c/o 66 South Street, Bridport DT6 3NN.

Bridport Carnival is still looking for local good causes to support with grants this year, in exchange for support during the carnival events.

If your club, charity, school or organisation can help during carnival events, such as with escorting the processions in return for a grant, you can apply at https://bridportcarnival.co.uk/beneficiaries-application-form

Individuals who would like to assist the carnival in a practical manner (e.g. helping man road closures, stewarding at the processions or bonfire), you would be welcome to join the list of Friends of Bridport Carnival.

Get in touch via the carnival website https://bridportcarnival.co.uk, email [email protected], or volunteer at Bridport Tourist Information Centre.

Bridport Carnival procession, which this year will be held on Saturday, August 19, is free to enter and there are monetary prizes to be won!

New carnival entry categories and new awards have been introduced for 2023 to encourage more to take part.

Anyone can enter, from walking entries to motorised floats and this is a great way to promote your club, hobby, skill or business while having lots of fun and supporting the community.

Entry forms are now available to download/print at https://bridportcarnival.co.uk

Last year's carnival winners are asked to please return their cups to AG Downs, 66 South St, Bridport DT6 3NN.
