Bridport Community Allotment – part of the Community Orchard – will be holding its annual open afternoon on Thursday, August 10 from 2pm onwards.

This will be an opportunity to have a look round this valuable community asset, which is managed by a dedicated group of volunteers.

As the site behind St Mary's Church in South Street is slightly tucked away, many residents don't realise that it's there so this event is held annually to let people know where the allotment is and what it can offer.

A spokesperson said: "There's nothing better than learning to grow your own fruit and vegetables, especially among a friendly group of like minded growers!

"This is an ideal place to have a go and is important for those who do not have a garden of their own. All are welcome to join the allotment group whether you are a keen gardener or a complete novice."

The open day will include a pop-up refreshment tent offering drinks and homemade cakes, as well as a selection of preserves, plants and cards – cash only.
