Bridport Community Orchard and Allotments looking to recruit volunteers
Bridport Community Orchard and Allotments is looking to recruit new volunteers for regular working groups and special events.
It's a chance to learn about the seasons in an orchard and have fun working as part of a knowledgeable team.
The shared spaces of the orchard behind St Mary's Church off South Street, and Jubilee Green Orchard at the top of Park Road, provide open spaces for everyone to enjoy with the centrepiece being the collection on heritage fruit trees. Additionally, the community allotment provides a place for volunteers to come together and learn how to grow fruit and vegetables for their own use and various food charities in Bridport. These spaces are managed by volunteers alongside Bridport Town Council.
A spokesman for Bridport Community Orchard and Allotments said: "No prior knowledge of managing an orchard or green space required. The friendly volunteers will make you welcome and guide and support you.
"As the seasons change, the tasks that need to be carried out change and part of the joy of being an orchard volunteer is becoming more closely immersed with that natural ebb and flow."
This year, the team is restoring a full programme of traditional events. After a Wassail celebration in January, volunteers are organising Mayfest on May 2.
