Bridport Lions Club needs your support as its Santa's Sleigh fundraising goes online

Bridport Lions' Club needs your help as it is unable to go ahead with one of its main fundraising events.

The group would usually be collected with its Santa's Sleigh outside Morrisons in the lead up to Christmas, which raises thousands of pounds.

A Go Fund Me has been set up to raise money, which goes towards those in need in our community. The group has set a target of £1,000.

Sheila Burton, president of Bridport Lions Club, said: "It was with sadness that I had to cancel our annual Santa's Sleigh collection outside Morrisons this year.

"With a membership almost entirely in their 70s, 80s and 90s, it was not appropriate at this time.

"The Santa's Sleigh collection is one of our main fundraising events, raising around £2,000 a year. This money forms part of our charity fund used throughout the year helping those in need in our community.

"Along with many other charities, we have not been able to fundraise this year but we have continued to respond to individual requests for help. We supported the local Brandon's Trail appeal with an early donation of £500 and this week a further £300 was sent to Cupboard Love foodbank.

"All has been made possible through the generosity of the people of Bridport and surrounding villages.

"This year we are making our collection online with our Go Fund Me page."
