Bridport's very own sculpture trail is nearing competition as the last sculpture – The Stalking Dog by Greta Berlin - is installed.

Bridport Town Council, The Arts Development Company and the Area of Outstanding natural Beauty (AONB) have been working together to instigate a new sculpture trail for Bridport.

It showcases sculptures from Dorset AONB artists which have been placed along a new green route, a three-mile walk around the town.

Bridport-based and Royal College trained artist Isla Chaney instigated the trail by placing some of her work in public spaces, which features a piece at Bridport Millennium Green, and was very well-received by residents and visitors. The trail has been expanded with sculptural work clambering up trees, nestled among plants and over the river. Sites include Plottingham Field, Riverside Gardens, Happy Island, Borough Gardens and Millennium Green.

Bridport Sculpture Trail is managed and curated by Cleo Evans at The Arts Development Company on behalf of Bridport Town Council.

Councillor Karen Hunt was a member of the panel that selected the sculptures. She said: "The town council is delighted to be able to instigate this new sculpture trail around Bridport. Our community is rich with highly skilled artists and here is an opportunity to showcase their talents within the green routes.

"The trail enhances these green spaces and will be lovely for residents and visitors to discover thought-provoking pieces of contemporary art."

Plaques explaining who the artists are and what inspired the individual pieces are due to be installed this week, completing the sculpture trail.
