Bridport Coronavirus Community Support has received a Hidden Heroes award for 'outstanding performance during the pandemic'.

The Hidden Heroes initiative was established to identify some of the excellent individuals and teams who would otherwise go without recognition, as well as try to highlight this incredible work that too often goes unnoticed.

The group is based at Bridport Medical Centre. Practice manager Eilish Davoren said: "A fantastic group of local volunteers who have supported the clinical team at Jurassic Coast Healthcare in West Dorset to deliver a mass vaccination level service at a local level.

"Their commitment and support to the team has been beyond what anyone of us could have expected from the local community.

"Week after week, in the rain and cold, they marshal those attending for vaccination, helping those that may be frail/anxious and cheering folk along the way with a smile and kind word. Fabulous people."

The awards were established by four companies - Dene Healthcare, Gama Healthcare, Interface Clinical Services and Practice Index.

Matt Taylor, of Dene Healthcare who presented the award, said: "2020 was a hard year for most and sadly the amazing work being done in general practice is too often overlooked.

"The Bridport community group is exactly the type of group we were hoping to identify and in some small way thank them for their contribution during the most difficult period in modern times."
