Bridport walk of the week: A wander to West Bay

Every week we will be sharing a circular walk in and around our local area with directions and photos. We use the OS Map app, which is very useful if you are out walking.

If you subscribe to our newsletter, you will be able to receive the walk first every Friday and be able to enjoy it over the weekend.

This week's walk is to West Bay and back and is around 2.6 miles, taking approximately one hour, which doesn't include walking around West Bay.

Start in the football club car park off Skilling Hill Road, next to St Mary's Primary School and take the footpath next to the river out towards the road. By the traffic lights on the opposite side of the road is a path between two walls, go through it and walk along beside the river.

Follow the path round to the right and turn left when you come out opposite a house. Follow the path under the road bridge and through two fields.

Go through the gate at the end of the second field and veer left to walk along the gravel path. Follow this path until you come out at a caravan park and follow the little concrete path round to the left in between caravans.

When you get to a road, continue straight and follow it down into West Bay. Take some time to explore West Bay - it has numerous places to eat and drink.

When you're ready to walk back, from the roundabout at the entrance of the caravan park, turn to walk across the bridge towards St John's Church. Walk past it and just after the West Bay Hotel, turn left into the car park.

Walk past Station Kitchen and the train carriage and join the path to the right of the play area. Continue along this path and, crossing a road and picking it up on the other side.

When the path meets another path, turn left a go round the green. Continue along this path past the Crown Inn and cross the road over to Groves Nurseries. Turn right to go under the subway. Stay on this pavement and turn left at Palmers Brewery, crossing the road first to go along the pavement, following it down back to the football club car park.

This walk is just a suggestion, you can of course take any different routes you wish to make it more direct or make it longer. Always take extra care where the ground is uneven or wet.

Please leave gates as you find them - if you opened it, close it.

Please keep dogs on leads around livestock.
