If you want to be guaranteed a tip top cider, then the Woodman Inn pub in Bridport is the place to go.

Having been nominated by West Dorset Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) members, it was judged and came top of the class in the annual Cider Pub of the Year competition.

The Woodman is a classic town centre pub which, alongside an interesting and ever-changing range of real ales, serves an excellent range of traditional ciders with a broad range in scope from sweet to dry.

Regular cider producers on the bar are Burrow Hill, Dorset Nectar, Isaacs from Beaminster and Twisted.

This is the second time the pub has won the award and, on hearing of the news, licensee Darren Moore said: "It's amazing! We didn't expect it at all. A huge thanks to CAMRA and to all the producers we use.

"It's a shame duty is still 40p per litre if you produce more than 7,000 litres, which is quite shocking and needs to be campaigned against.

"Cider is the lifeblood of the South West and what everyone visiting wants, maybe our local MP Chris Loder could bring this up."

West Dorset CAMRA chairman Bruce Mead commented: "It was a real pleasure to present Darren the licensee of The Woodman his certificate for West Dorset CAMRA Cider Pub of the Year.

"The pub serves an excellent range served in great condition. They complement the changing ale selection and makes the Woodman a must visit pub when in Bridport."

The Woodman now goes through into the Wessex region cider pub finals and West Dorset CAMRA wish Darren and his team the best of luck.
