Inspired by a volunteer gardening group, a Bradpole resident is hoping to brighten up the verges and green spaces near where she lives.

Sheri Ahmet decided to join Get Bradpole Buzzing in the summer after lockdown.

She said: "I have never really done any community work and I was really impressed how during lockdown everybody came together as a community - that feeling of community hasn't been felt for a really long time.

"I felt that I wasn't doing anything and I should do something. I quite like gardening and found this local group in my area doing some ecological work, planting plants and raising flower beds.

"The work they have done is amazing."

Sheri Ahmet was so impressed with the Get Bradpole Buzzing group that she decided to start doing the same where she lives in Wellfields Drive. The group operates within the Bradpole Parish Council area and this came under Bridport Town Council.

She put in a proposal to the town council and with Dorset Council as the highways authority and is waiting to hear when she can start.

The areas include the green spaces and verges around Wellfields Drive, Acer Avenue, Fishweir Fields and Fishweir Lane.

As well as this, Sheri also delivered around 130 newsletters to nearby residents about her plans.

Sheri set up a Crowdfunder for materials and anything she may use and managed to raise £305, as well as being offered free tree saplings from Bridport Tree Planting and Groves Nurseries. She has planted some bulbs around the area.

She said: "I have had so much positivity from others and replies to help. I think it will be lovely once it keeps going.

"I feel really inspired by my other group, so it's really good how it seeps into you."
