Coastguard officers were tasked to rescue two people who had fallen on the coast in less than a week.

West Bay officers were first alerted to a 64-year-old woman who had fallen on West Cliff and thought to have a broken wrist.

The ambulance service asked coastguard officers to attend ahead of its arrival.

A spokesman for West Bay Coastguard said: "The casualty was located and her injury stabilised using the team's splints and fracture straps.

"She was then left in the care of the ambulance service who arrived shortly after for her onward journey to Dorset County Hospital.

"We wish the lady a full and speedy recovery."

Five days later on April 15, officers were called to a 69-year-old man who had fallen while walking in North Chideock.

Paramedics were on scene but required help to get the casualty out as he was off-road, around one mile north on Venn Farm.

The West Bay Coastguard spokesman added: "On arrival, contact was made with one of the ambulance crew who was waiting for us, and additional equipment was loaded onto the rescue vehicle.

"With expert help from the local farmer, the best off-road route was identified and the officers, along with the remaining ambulance crew member set off to join the casualty and on-scene paramedic.

"Once on scene, the officers and ambulance crew worked together to package the casualty and then slowly transport him back to the main road where he was transferred to the ambulance.

"We wish the casualty a full recovery.

"Special thanks goes out to the team at Venn Farm for their help and assistance during this incident.

"Stay safe on the coast, but if you find yourself in difficulty, or if you see something that gives you cause for concern, do not hesitate, dial 999 and ask for the coastguard."
