Bridport Leisure Centre is inviting the local community to get behind them, supporting their fundraising effort, to carry out essential maintenance to their pool.
The centre is a single-site charitable trust. This strictly not-for-profit organisation uses any surplus funds to improve the facilities for their members and visitors.
The swimming pool, something that was campaigned for by the residents of Bridport, is approaching its 30th birthday and is in need of a full regrout to its walls and floor.
Centre Manager Will Thrower explains: "Following an extremely challenging 2.5years, the centre is continuing to recover from the effects of covid and continues to make many improvements to the facilities and experiences of its users.
"These works are estimated to cost approximately £30,000. We hope to undertake works in December this year before the problem escalates further and causes potential damage and an increased period of closure to rectify the problem".
Bridport and West Dorset Trust have owned and operated Bridport Leisure Centre since 1974 and during this time it has become an important community hub, providing a wide range of recreational facilities and activities for the people of West Dorset. Their overall aim is to enhance the quality of life for the whole community. The team at the centre are committed to promoting health and wellbeing to all sectors of the community.
The swimming pool is utilised by a wide range of users and is home to Bridport Swim School and Bridport Barracudas Swimming and Water Polo Clubs, plus a number of other clubs and bookings.
Will added: "We really hope that the generosity shown previously by our members and the local community can be replicated once again, as we rally around our fantastic community asset."
