Flood defence works along River Brit start today

Flood defence works by the River Brit start today (Monday).

It is the final phase of the West Bay Coastal Defence Improvements Scheme.

Flood protection improvement works to the River Brit riverbank will provide improved flood protection to the Parkdean Resorts West Bay Holiday Park and West Bay.

For 16 weeks, Dorset Council and contractors will be driving in a sheet pile flood defence wall along the line of the existing bank. The riverbank will be re-profiled, as well as installing additional protection for the riverbank. Access will also be improved for the Environment Agency and Dorset Council operations and maintenance teams to structures that need frequent monitoring and maintenance.

Works are due to be completed by March 2021.

The work is being project managed and constructed by Dorset Council in collaboration with Parkdean Resort, the Environment Agency, engineering designers Jacobs Ltd and expert local contractors Suttle Projects.
