Bridport Heritage Forum call for residents to share memories of 1950s for next exhibition
Members of Bridport Heritage Forum are busy collating information, artefacts and building sets for their next large scale exhibition, which will highlight the life and times of the 1950s
A 1950s kitchen will take centre stage and other exhibits will feature childhood toys, TV programmes and 'A Night Out', complete with Babycham, hamburgers, skiffle, Teddy Boys and fashionable dancers.
Collecting materials for these themes has been very successful but the forum is struggling to find original photos, artefacts and memories of the most local themes - Bridport Schooldays - particularly of the opening of the Sir John Colfox School in 1956 and the Charter Pageant in 1953.
All the recognised local archives have turned up nothing, so the forum is appealing to the local community for help.
Residents will be able to share their memories, photographs, old school ties, 'cavemen' costumes and memorabilia on Saturday, March 11 between 10am and 1pm at the British Legion Hall, where members of the forum will be on hand. Refreshments will also be available.
The exhibition will then be held in Bridport Town Hall in August.
