Here's how Bridport will be celebrating the Queen's Platinum Jubilee

There is so much to get involved in to celebrate the Queen's Platinum Jubilee next month.

Community picnics, garden parties, tea parties, concerts and more have been organised to celebrate the momentous occasion.

Festivities in Bridport will start on Saturday, May 28 with the Bridport Big Band performing at Bridport United Church from 7.30pm. to celebrate the Queen's Platinum Jubilee. Tickets cost £12.00 from Bridport TIC.

From Wednesday, June 1 to Tuesday, June 7, Explosion of Colour and Texture Exhibition will take place at Eype Centre for the Arts. Two Bridport women, Margaret Preuss-Higham and Shirley Holbrook Cooper have come together to exhibit photography and ceramics from their own perspectives.

Events taking place over the bank holiday weekend:

Thursday, June 2

  • Symondsbury Estate Garden Party - From 11am to 4pm, there is something for everyone, including live music, children's entertainment, creative workshops, fete games, competitions and food.
  • Proclamation by mayor and town crier - in Bucky Doo Square at 9.45pm
  • Jubilee beacon - on Coneygar Hill with Bridport town crier, a bugler and choir (time TBA)

Friday, June 3

  • Civic service at St Mary's church - 11am

Saturday, June 4

  • The Queen's Platinum Jubilee tea party - At Gore Cross Recreation Area from 2pm to 5pm, there will be light refreshments, children's activities, music, tree dedication. Bring your own picnic, chairs and blankets.
  • Songs of Praise - at Holy Trinity Church, Bradpole, from 6.30pm

Sunday, June 5

  • Jubilee fete - at Mapperton House and Gardens from 10am to 4pm
  • Jubilee picnic lunch - from 2pm to 4pm at Bridport Millennium Green. There will be live music from local bands and a cake stall, bring your own picnic and rugs.
  • Community picnic - Allington Hill (time TBA)
  • Platinum Praise - By Churches Together on West Bay Harbour Green. An outdoor service followed by a tea party. (Time TBA)

Thursday, June 9

  • Celebration organ concert - at Bridport United Church from 7.30pm.

Sunday, June 19

  • Queen's Jubilee concert - at St Swithun's Church by Bridport Chamber Orchestra from 3pm. Tickets available for £10 from Bridport Music Centre and The Book Shop, as well as on the door.
