Jess Hennessy who works at The Hive Beach Cafe in Burton Bradstock is time out from working long days to do a 12-mile sponsored walk this Friday, June 10 to raise funds and awareness in the fight against prostate cancer .
She's doing it for her dad, Shaun, who told her of his prostate cancer diagnosis in February 2019.
"To most people, my dad is just another name, but my dad has always put everyone before himself. He helped for many years with the adoption agency my brother and I came from, and he's helped out at Weymouth Football Club for seven years, as well as volunteering to feed the homeless in Weymouth," says Jess.
"My Dad has never been a person to just judge a book by its cover, and will always give people countless chances, even when he knows he's going to end up getting messed around in the long run.
"He always gives to people without expecting anything in return. He is the strongest, most loyal, hard-working man you'll ever meet."
Jess has been spurred on by her dad, who has just finished his latest round of treatment - and watching him navigate it has made her more determined than ever to do the walk to raise some money for Cancer Research UK - and help save someone else's dad who is going through the same thing - as 41,000 men a year are diagnosed. Quite a number.
She's walking from Upwey to Hardy's Monument - so let's hope the weather is good - but come rain or shine her target is £500. She has already raised £350, and if you'd like to donate to help her on her fundraising way, please go to fundraise.cancerresearchuk.org
