A group of ladies is hoping to raise £500 to "bring a little cheer" to families in need this Christmas.

Bridport Ladies Circle was only formed at the beginning of this year and this is the group's first fundraiser.

A member of Bridport Ladies Circle said: "We are 10 local ladies and wanted to do something within the current parameters where we could achieve something positive for the local community and give something back.

"We thought walking in November, either on our own or with one other, was a good way to do this.

"We have currently walked 172 miles between us and have raised £185 of a £500 target, which we plan to give to Bridport food bank for its £5 Christmas stockings."

The group wants to raise awareness for the team that gives out stockings and hampers to vulnerable families in Bridport for Christmas.

They rely in donations and each hamper costs £30 and the stockings cost £5.

Last year, 46 hampers and 68 stockings were given away for Christmas Day, which "help ensure our most needy and vulnerable families can enjoy Christmas dinner and a tea and that children can enjoy the thrill of a visit from Santa".

They added: "We hope to reach our target so we can all help to bring a little cheer this Christmas to families in need."
