A large section of the cliff near Eype, that had been cordoned off due to a large, growing crack, has fallen.

It is thought to have fallen last night or early this morning and people are warned not to go near it as it is "still falling and unstable".

A spokesman for Dorset Council said: "As expected, a large section of Highlands Park cliff near West Bay fell last night.

"An alternative path that takes people away from the fall has been kindly provided by Highlands End Holiday Park. Walkers must read the on-site information, not climb over the barriers and follow this path.

"The cliff is still falling and unstable."

The 200-metre section of the South West Coast Path near West Bay was closed on Wednesday due to a growing crack in the clifftop.

Over the last three weeks, the section of cliff had been monitored by Dorset Council and the Jurassic Coast Trust as it showed signs of collapsing with a 90m long crack in the clifftop.
