Latest Covid figures in Dorset: Cases remain high despite decrease

Covid cases have reduced across Dorset, but remain at high levels.

Public Health Dorset reports that there are 1,664 confirmed cases in the last seven days in the Dorset Council area, compared to 2,181 on November 5, and 1,923 in the Bournemouth, Poole and Christchurch (BCP) Council area, compared to 2,018 on November 5.

The seven-day case rate per 100,000 pf the population in the Dorset Council area is 438.1, compared to 574.3 on November 5, and 484.4 in the BCP Council area, compared to 508.3 on November 5.

There are currently 70 people with Covi-19 in Dorset hospital beds, compared to 69 on November 5.

A spokesman for Public Health Dorset said: "Case rates have decreased across both council areas since last week. Despite this, cases remain at high levels locally. Both areas are now above the South West regional average and remain significantly above the England average.

"With high case rates locally, it's important that we continue to take steps to reduce transmission wherever possible. If we all take steps now we can help bring cases down, reduce pressure on the local health and care system and avoid the need for further measures over the winter period. Ventilation remains key to stopping the airborne spread of the virus.

"We're asking everyone to take twice weekly rapid tests to check you're not infectious. This helps to make sure you're not unknowingly passing the virus on the others when you're going to work or meeting up with friends and family.

"If you're eligible for the booster vaccine, you can now book your appointment five months after your second dose. Demand is high but appointments are being added so check back regularly if you can't find a convenient slot straight away."
