Making a splash as the much-loved raft race returned to West Bay

The annual fiasco of water, rafts, and carnage was held yesterday (Thursday) at West Bay. Contestants had to race their way up the River Brit before coming back down again to the finish line. Except the real challenge is keeping your raft afloat, which everyone was successful at... the right way up however is a different story.

The sides were packed with hundreds of people, all eyes on to see who would win, except I think most people were just there to see the racers splash each other, a nice cooldown from a hot week.

Some contestants went for speed, small rafts with high power of two people, and some went for the best dressed award, from aliens to Prime Ministers.

It was another great year for the RNLI raft race, and we hope more money has been raised for our local heroes.

The winners were:

First place - Fun Seeker

Second - Paddletastic by Bay Paddle Boarding

Most Entertaining - Up Brit Creek Without a Paddle by Lyme Bay Rib Charter

Best Dressed - Wren's from Wren's Nursery

Top Sponsorship - Oscar's Wine Bar
