More than £1,100 has been raised to enable a Nativity scene to be displayed in the town in the lead up to Christmas.

The team at The Lyric Theatre launched a Crowdfunding campaign to bring the handcrafted, illuminated Nativity scene to Bridport for passers-by to enjoy during December.

It has been created by artist Edwina Bridgeman and will be on display in the Barrack Street theatre.

Niki McCretton, owner of The Lyric Theatre, said: "With a humungous thank you to everyone who donated to and shared our Crowdfunder campaign, we're absolutely delighted to say we've reached our target of £1,190 to bring Edwina Bridgeman's beautiful Nativity scene to The Lyric in December.

"We are so excited and can't wait to share it with you all.

"We wanted to bring this Nativity scene to Bridport purely to spread some much-needed joy, to support an artist and to end this pretty miserable year on a positive note.

"There is now a stretch target on our Crowdfunder and any funds raised in this amount will go directly towards The Lyric's overheads.

"Once again, thank you so much everyone for making this happen - we are feeling the love."
