Dee Lanning and her team at Dynamic Dance will be welcoming new dancers to their modern jive classes at Chideock Village Hall from Monday, May 15.
Although 2023 has brought many new members to the popular Chideock-based class, these new members have now moved on to intermediate level so the Dynamic Dance crew will once again be welcoming beginners this month.
Over a six to eight week period, new dancers will be introduced to the fundamentals of modern jive and will learn around 18-20 beginners moves that can be danced in any sequence. As there is no complicated footwork to learn, these classes are perfect for those with little to no experience and with two left feet.
Classes run on a Monday evening from 7.30pm to 10.15pm, and include more than 90 minutes of tuition and over one hour of freestyle, which is broken down into manageable chunks throughout the evening.
Freestyle not only gives dancers plenty of opportunities to practice their moves to a range of music, but is a great way to keep fit, meet new people and have fun.
The freestyle nature of modern jive means that you do not need to sign up for a course, you can simply come on the nights that you are free. However, like with any new skill, attending regularly will mean that you will find it easier to pick up moves week-to-week.
Modern jive is the ultimate social dance, meaning that dancers attending these classes do not require a fixed partner, and are very welcome to attend alone or with friends.
In addition to Dee's expert tuition, new participants will also receive dedicated support from experienced crew members, as well as the chance to attend social dances and workshops with dancers from all over West Dorset, East Devon and Somerset.
Dynamic Dance's principle teacher, Dee Lanning, is a qualified dance instructor with 17 years experience teaching modern jive.
Talking about her classes, she said: "Modern jive is more than just a dance, it gives people of all ages and abilities the chance to meet new people, learn a new skill and increase their fitness levels.
"The number one reason people state for not coming to dance classes is that they don't have anyone to dance with. The social nature of our class means that anyone can come, with or without a partner and you will be included, not just by our fabulous crew but by the other dancers in class.
"We are a community, and we are looking forward to meeting and welcoming new dancers, too."
In addition to teaching modern jive, Dee also offers solo Charleston classes in Bridport, and Dance Fit classes in the South Perrott Area.
The Modern jive classes cost £6 per person and there is no joining fee. For more information, contact Dee Lanning on 07740 349 393 or visit www.dynamic-dance.uk
