Find out more about Bridport's mental health hub

The Burrough Harmony Centre for Wellbeing, is having an open day on October 12 from 2.30pm to 4.30pm at its premises at the Assembly Rooms, Gundry Lane.

It will celebrate and recognise World Mental Health Day, the theme of which this year is 'mental health in an unequal world'.

Some people call mental health 'emotional health' or 'well-being' and it's just as important as good physical health. We all have times when we feel down or stressed or frightened. Most of the time those feelings pass. But sometimes they develop into a more serious problem and that could happen to any one of us.

Everyone is different and Harmony offers help to those of us who can bounce back from a setback such as lockdown as well as those who may feel weighed down by it for a long time.

Manager Carrie Gamble said: "Covid restrictions have increased isolation and has made life more difficult for many local people. But our doors are open for all. We welcome people to come and see us at our open day or call in during our opening times for the Harmony Drop-in on Monday, Wednesday or Friday between 10am and 1pm.

"We also have the Bridport Community Front Room which is open for anyone to drop-in if they feel they are heading towards, or are in, a mental health crisis. The Front Room is open Thursdays to Sundays 3:15 - 10:45pm where there is a warm welcome and a safe space to come and talk."

World Mental Health Day recognises the stigma attached to mental health problems that can make people feel uncomfortable about them and don't talk about them much. Many people don't even feel comfortable talking about their feelings. But it's healthy to know and say how you're feeling.

Harmony helps people take care of themselves and get the most from life. Making simple changes to how you live doesn't need to cost a fortune or take up loads of time. Anyone can follow this advice. Or they can contact Harmony Drop-in us during opening hours on 07597 379290, or the Community Front Room on 07385 290804.
