Pictures: Calm after the storm as flooding hits Burton Bradstock

By Lottie Welch 1st Nov 2021

It seems to be the calm after the storm - for now - as winds and rain ease in West Dorset.

Many parts of the area experienced flooding yesterday (Sunday), including Burton Bradstock, which is notoriously badly affected when we experience a lot of rain like we did over the weekend.

Mark Parker has sent these images of the village, which he took yesterday, which show the playground under water.

Crews from Bridport Fire Station were sent to Barrowland Lane, Toller Porcorum, along with Beaminster Fire Station after a delivery van became stuck in flood water.

Bridport's wading team rescued the driver and then removed the vehicle from the flood water.

A spokesman for Bridport Fire Station said: "A vehicle's air intake for the engine are quite low, normally in the front grill. Water can not be compressed inside an engine. Therefore your engine will stop, leaving you stranded in a potentially life threatening situation with rising flood water.

"Do not drive through flood water, even if it looks shallow. Find another route."

The weather forecast from the Met Office for the rest of the week currently looks bright and dry for Bridport.
