A barn fire took around 25,000 litres of water to extinguish and destroyed 60 tonnes of hay.

Crews from Bridport and Beaminster fire stations were called to the fire in Shipton Gorge on Friday, just before 12noon.

A spokesman for Bridport Fire Station said: "Both Bridport's pumping appliances, the water carrier and Beaminster Fire Station's pump and light off-road vehicle were mobilised to a barn fire in Shipton Gorge.

"One barn containing approximately 60 tons of hay and machinery was well alight. Crews used main lines, small tools and approximately 25,000 litres of water to extinguish the fire.

"The fire, which is currently being investigated, destroyed the barn and its contents."

Crews returned on Saturday morning for a re-inspection.
