A changing room for people with disabilities could be built alongside existing loos off the Station Yard car park in West Bay.

Bridport Town Council and Dorset Council have applied for planning permission for the new facility on former railway land to the east of the West Bay Road car park.

It is part of the Changing Places campaign which seeks to improve accessible toilet facilities.

The new loo will be able to be accessed from a vehicle parked close by or by foot and will be contained in a 5.8m by 3m extension to the existing toilet block which will include six solar panels in the design, enough to light the room and power a hoist.

The designers say the space should be large enough for a disabled person to have support from one or two carers, if needed.

The existing block has one disabled wc but with no room for an additional person to provide support.

The application, Dorset Council reference 2022/03511, is out for public consultation until July 6.
