Police discovered a body in the search for 95-year-old Michael Norman on Saturday

Officers searching for a missing elderly man in West Dorset found a body on Saturday, March 18.

Dorset Police received a report at 3.11pm on Friday, March 17 raising concern for the welfare of 95-year-old Michael Norman, from Corscombe, near Beaminster.

Following searches by officers, assisted by the National Police Air Service helicopter, Dorset Search and Rescue and Wessex 4x4 Rescue, the body of a man was located on Saturday afternoon. 

The body has yet to be formally identified, however, it is believed to be Mr Norman.

The death is not being treated as suspicious and HM Coroner has been notified.

Dorset Police said: "Our thoughts are with the family and loved ones of Michael at this extremely difficult time.

"We would like to thank everyone who assisted with the searches, as well as the public for their help in providing information."
