Christmas May seem a long way off, but Bridport Choral Society is already looking forward to December.

Rehearsals for the new season start on Monday, September 12 when, under the leadership of the group's musical director James Crawshaw, members will start to prepare for their annual Christmas concert, which will be held on Saturday, December 11 at Bridport United Church.

A spokesman said: "Bridport Choral Society is a warm and friendly group and always welcomes new members.

"It has a policy of no auditions for those wishing to join, but do ask for some musical knowledge - ability to read music is useful but not essential - enthusiasm and commitment to the choir."

Bridport Choral Society meets on Mondays at 7.30pm in the Bridport United Church Hall in East Street until 9.30pm. It also puts on a spring concert in May and the cost per term to become a member is £40.

The group is performing at Bridport Charter Fair on September 25, so why not pop into the arts centre on that day to hear what the choir sounds like?

The spokesman added: "The benefits of singing are well known - it releases endorphins to lift your mood, reduces stress and it's an aerobic activity which gets oxygen into your blood for better circulation. Apart from that, it's fun and a real tonic after the last 18 months we've had."

If you would like to join the choir for the new season, contact details are on Bridport Choral Society's website and Facebook page, or just simply turn up 10 minutes before the start of rehearsal on September 13.
