A four vehicle crash after an elderly woman had a medical episode closed East Street yesterday morning (Wednesday).

Dorset Police were called just before 10am.

A spokesman for Bridport Police said: "The elderly driver of a Silver Peugeot 306 had a medical episode. No one was hurt in the collision and the elderly driver was taken to Dorset County Hospital and her condition is not thought to be serious.

"I would like to say a massive thank you to the Bridport Town Council staff who assisted in putting on a road closure prior to police arrival and continued to assist whilst we were taking driver details and those who witnessed the incident. I would also like to thank those who provided cold bottles of water to those working on scene which was very much appreciated as the road closure remained in place while we were waiting for the arrival of the recovery vehicle to remove the badly damaged car and also thank you to the drivers and their passengers that were inconvenienced for any delays whilst having to be diverted."
