Six Bridport pubs are amongst the top in the UK serving the finest real ale.

The CAMRA Good Beer Guide 2021 has been released and is a celebration of the best kept pints and a credit to all publicans that make the strict grade for inclusion.

Six pubs in the Bridport area have made the grade including micro pub the Pursuit of Hoppiness, The Ropemakers pub, Spyway Inn at Askerswell, The Woodman, The Crown Inn and the Anchor Inn in Seatown.

Mark and Laura Watson of the Spyway Inn said: "It's our first time in the guide, we have been striving to offer a wide choice of real ale. We source locally and from further afield, we try to support local Dorset breweries.

"We have been offering takeaway ale through both lockdowns. We also offer a takeaway food service.

"Being included has given us something to be positive about in these difficult times."

John Baker of The Ropemakers pub said: "We are very proud to have been in the CAMRA Good Beer Guide for the last seven years.

"This guide primarily concerns the quality of the real ale served to the customer and being included in the guide is verification of the ales that we serve. Cellar management is part of the key to serving good quality ales, together with good cleanliness both in the cellar and looking after the glassware and we are proud of our staff who understand this.

"Part of selling quality ale is having good sales of each ale so that it is kept fresh and one of the advantages of being in the guide is increased sales to ale lovers."

The guide is quite unique in that it is put together via local CAMRA branches, all of who are volunteers. The only way to make the guide is by selling consistently well-kept beer throughout the year, a publican cannot pay to be listed.

It features more than 4,500 pubs with information on each listed pub and a vast directory of more than 1,800 breweries in the UK with their core beers listed as well as tasting notes.

Rich Gabe, of West Dorset CAMRA, said: "While pubs are currently shut, on reopening they will need all the support we can safely offer, and with Christmas looming, this makes a superb stocking filler.

"If ever I work away from home, I always take my copy with me."
