The Bridport community recently celebrated the unveiling of a new games area following its makeover.

On Saturday (20th) members of the Town Council and the local basketball club gathered to open the refurbished Multi Use Games Area (MUGA) next to Bridport Football Club.

For the reopening, MUGA Bridport Evolution Basketball Club hosted a mini tournament with music and refreshments.

Members of the Town Council, The Mayor, and Bridport Evolution Basketball Club unveil the new sports facility in the town.

Emily Carr from Bridport Evolution said the opening day was a "huge success". She continued: "Since opening the MUGA recently we have been inundated with positive comments from the Bridport community. It was just great to see everyone of all ages enjoying the court.

"Our aim at Bridport Evolution Basketball Club was to encourage anyone, particularly our young people to play outdoors and pick up a basketball, Thanks to Bridport TC in particular Daryl Chambers and the Projects Crew. I imagine and hope it will have that effect for many years to come."

Bridport Mayor Ian Bark was on hand to open the colourful games area and he described it as "absolutely stunning". The designs were from competition winner Jaden Brook.

The cost of the makeover was met by Bridport Town Council and the work was carried out by members Emily, Craig, Kate Sorrell, and Neil Grey.

The MUGA, also known to many as the Cage incorporates tennis, netball, basketball, football, and many other sports all into one surface.

Daryl Chambers, Town Surveyor, added: "The Town Council worked with the Evolution Basketball Club to help them completely renovate the Multi Use Games Arena (MUGA) by providing the financial assistance needed.

"The club led by Emily and Craig then carried out all the work themselves to achieve this great facility for Bridport.

"This is a great example of how the Town Council gets involved to support groups to achieve their aims and we hope more clubs and groups come forward with their ideas we can support."
