Bridport's Mayor hopes to see The George returned to its "former glory" following the news of its reopening.

Simon and Alison Mason have taken on the town centre pub and hope to reopen it at the end of October/early November.

"The news that The George, South Street is to reopen has been welcomed by many. It is a pub with a long history and has been a much-loved hostelry over many years," Mayor Ian Bark said in his weekly report.

"I, for one, am looking forward to seeing the George returned to its former glory," he added.

There were plenty of positive comments to the news on social media, one read: "Good to see a pub reopening. Good luck to all involved."

A second read: "Looking forward to it. The George is so special."

A third person said: "Brilliant news."

The pair are also building a new team, advertising for chefs, bar staff, front of house staff, cleaners, among other positions.
