Thorncombe Community Shop's café area is slowly emerging from lockdown, with the team excited to restart weekly lunches and monthly breakfasts.

The shop committee discussed a number of things at an informal meeting at the end of March, but the most important was the proposal for re-opening the café and the facilities associated with that, together with shop opening hours going forward.

Food and drink can currently be enjoyed on the shop's outside decking and from May 17, customers will be able to once again eat inside.

From Tuesday, May 18, the weekly Tuesday lunches will resume - booking essential on 01460 30282 - and the weekly Saturday bacon baps can be served inside and outside the shop. The monthly Sunday breakfasts will begin on Sunday, June 6 and will continue on the first Sunday of each month. Again, booking is essential.

The shop also hopes to be open until 4pm on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, but this is subject to change and will remain while the committee assesses the demand.

From June 21, the committee is hoping to install an electrically-operated awning on the shop front, subject to planning permission.

Anne Johnson-Rooks, chairman of Thorncombe Community Shop management committee, said: "This will give shade in summer, as well as shielding customers seated outside from inclement weather.

"We have also been given money to purchase some comfortable outside furniture, all of which will make the shop look attractive and enticing.

"We give our usual heartfelt thanks to all of our valued customers and friends.

"Do come and visit us in this Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, where you are assured of receiving a warm welcome."
