Walk of the week: Take in the sights of Coneygar Hill
We have introduced a walk of the week for our newsletter subscribers to enjoy over the weekend.
Each Friday we will be sharing a circular walk in and around our local area with directions and photos. We use the OS Map app, which is very useful if you are out walking.
This week's walk takes in a 1.5-mile route through Coneygar Hill and along part of the River Brit, taking around 45 minutes. There is a steep incline and decline on Coneygar Hill.
Start at the Millennium Green off Rax Lane and take the footpath up to the right of Alfred Lodge, signposted 'footpath to Coneygar Hill'. Follow this path until just after a signpost with 'Mountfield, Coneygar Hill Millennium Green' on it and turn right to a wooden gate.
Continue straight up Coneygar Hill - but don't forget to turn around and check out the view! - and go through the kissing gate on the other side of the hill, crossing over the path and going down the path opposite.
Follow this path and it will come out at Coneygar Park. Turn left to go down the hill and then turn left to walk up Coneygar Lane.
As it comes to a turning circle and dead end, take the footpath straight in front of you and continue straight until you reach Osborne Road. Take a slight right and turn left down into Victoria Grove.
Turn left onto Victoria Grove and continue along the path. Go down some steps and cross the road to continue on the path.
Rejoin the road and cross the road to walk along the pavement. Go past where the road forks and after a little while there will be a footpath on the right. Go down there into a field.
It's quite overgrown but follow the path through the field, keeping to the left and stay left as the path forks.
Turn left to go over a bridge when the field ends before taking the next left on the other side of the bridge. Continue on this path where it turns into tarmac and over another bridge.
When the path meets a road, turn left and follow the road around to the right, going past a wooden gate and onto West Street.
Turn left onto West Street and walk up into the town. Continue past the town clock and turn left to go up Downes Street and the Millennium Green will be ahead of you.
This walk is just a suggestion, you can of course take any different routes you wish to make it more direct or make it longer. Always take extra care where the ground is uneven or wet.
Please leave gates as you find them - if you opened it, close it.
Please keep dogs on leads around livestock.
