A charity Christmas lights display in Bradpole, near Bridport, was switched on by actor Martin Clunes on Monday evening.

The 'Doc Martin' star, who lives locally, was on hand to switch on the annual display at 2 White Close in Bradpole, organised by Monica and Rob Teague.

This year's spectacular display, complete with snow machine, is raising funds for Julia's House children's hospice, of which Mr Clunes is patron.

Switching on the lights in front of a large crowd of supporters, Mr Clunes spoke of residents' affection and price for Dorset-based charities including Julia's House.

He also paid tribute to those suffering from the conflict in Ukraine in the run up to Christmas.

Mrs Teague thanked all those attending and Bridport Building Supplies for their generous sponsorship which meant the display could still go ahead amid rising energy costs, as well as Framptons Butchers and Morrisons.

After the lights were switched on, crowds enjoyed mulled wine, mince pies and other festive refreshments, while children got the chance to meet Father Christmas.

The lighting display will now be switched on everyday from 5pm to 10pm during December and Father Christmas will be meeting children every Friday and Saturday in the run up to Christmas from 5.30pm to 7pm.
