Bridport Sea Cadets have been told they can knock down their existing dilapidated corrugated metal headquarters and replace it with a new building.
The Cadets' proposal won unanimous approval at a Dorset Council south and western area planning committee.
Planning officers told councillors that the replacement building was of a similar scale to the existing and the design appropriate to the boat yard setting.
The building will measure 5.3m in width, 6.7m in depth and 4m in height and will be clad in green profiled sheeting to the walls and roof – similar to the Coastguard storage building to its northeast.
A report to the area committee said: "The conservation officer has raised no objections and it is clear that the renewal of the building will improve the visual enhancement of the site given how aged and tired the existing building now appears."
