Holidaymakers in West Dorset raised £6,000 for the Jurassic Coast Trust during 2020

Despite the difficulties of holidaying in 2020, thousands of holidaymakers at West Dorset Leisure Holidays have raised more than £6,000 for the Jurassic Coast Trust.

Since 2008, West Dorset Leisure Holidays - which has parks in Eype, Seatown and Burton Bradstock - has raised funds through an optional donation being added to customers' bookings across their four holiday parks, which has now accumulated to almost £90,000.

The donations come at a critical time for the trust as it works to protect the Jurassic Coast and to deal with the challenges brought about by Covid-19 and its impact on tourism.

Martin Cox, from West Dorset Leisure Holidays, said: "It is great to be able to contribute to the Jurassic Coast Trust at such a critical point, and we are proud to have reached the £90,000 fundraising mark.

"Take up of our donation scheme was as strong as ever in 2020, despite the challenges that the year brought for our guests, which demonstrates how committed visitors are towards looking after the natural environment that they so enjoy."

The holiday park operator's fundraising has inspired more than 70 0ther businesses, large and small, across the coast and beyond to join the Jurassic Coast Trust as business partners, contributing towards the ongoing protection of the World Heritage Site.

Guy Kerr, business development manager at the Jurassic Coast Trust, said: "Having the support of West Dorset Leisure Holidays is absolutely critical in delivering our charitable aims of protecting and educating people about the Jurassic Coast, particularly during this challenging period.

"The amount raised represents thousands of contributions from individual holidaymakers who love and enjoy the coastline and is truly inspirational.

"Reaching the £90,000 milestone is a tremendous achievement and an example to businesses coast-wide."
