West Dorset MP Chris Loder has welcomed the Boundary Commission's final recommendations for Dorset.

The Boundary Commission has been carrying out a review of parliamentary constituencies across England ahead of the next general election.

Despite initially recommended that the Cerne and Piddle Valley communities move into the North Dorset constituency, Mr Loder said the commission had listened to those who had petitioned against this and they will remain in his West Dorset constituency.

The communities of Upwey and Broadwey have also succeeded in rebutting the original proposals of the commission by remaining in the South Dorset constituency, rather than moving into West Dorset.

As a result of the changes, the West Dorset constituency now has an electorate of 75,390 and constituency retains the Chalk Valleys ward, which includes the villages of Cerne Abbas and Cheselbourne.

Mr Loder said: "I am satisfied with the outcome of the Boundary Commission's final recommendations. What was initially proposed late last year would have substantially changed the character of West Dorset.

"I am glad that the Boundary Commission listened to the hundreds of constituents who submitted their feedback, and to myself and Richard Drax MP who wrote a joint letter in opposition to the proposals."
