Friday: Summer Festival Celebration

The Mayor and Mayoress of Bridport will be joining Care Dorset to officially open their garden area at Bridport Connect in St Andrew's Road (DT6 3BJ) at 1pm on Friday, September 1.

There will be stalls, games and a tombola, refreshments, plus entertainment from a choir, line dancing, magician and guitarist.

Saturday & Sunday: Dorset County Show

Dorset County Show will be held jus outside Dorchester this weekend, and looks set to be jam-packed with a host of exciting new attractions as well as new layout to help make the visitor experience even more enjoyable.

New attractions include the world's largest monster trucks revving in with spectacular car-crushing stunts. There's also the Dorset Axemen who will be thrilling crowds with their fast and furious wood cutting demonstrations in the new woodland area. 

Mounted pony club games and Shetland pony racing feature for the first time in the new Hill Top Ring. In the new Heavy Horse Village, visitors will be treated to demonstrations enjoying a chance to get up close with beautiful shires. 

If heritage crafts are your hobby, you won't want to miss the new Crafters' Avenue featuring displays of weaving, hurdling and more from Dorset's finest craftspeople.

A huge new Food and Drink Area will boast the best of British with a particular focus on Dorset produce. You won't go hungry! There's plenty of new picnic areas and pitstops plus live music and a funfair.

Saturday: Bridport Hat Festival

Bridport Hat Festival is on Saturday, September 2 with all the usual attractions on display, including a Fun Hat Competition open to everyone wearing a hat! Categories are Best Lady, Gent, Boy, Girl, Couple and Family or Group. Judging will be at 1pm just after the mass hatted photo in Bucky Doo Square.

There will be music provided by young local musicians and performances from the Bridport Broadsides Shanty Group. Extras this year include the finals of The Stanley Mansbridge Perpetual Trophy for Dorset Town Criers and the St Mary's Church Open Tower Day.

The all-day HatFest Garden Party will take place at Millennium Green with music including that from St Swithin's Brass Band and Clive Smith's Arcadia Jazz band. A licensed bar and food will be served all day.

Other attractions include Hat Hurling and a Hatted Dog Party in the morning with the Most Elegant Ensemble public competition in the afternoon.

Saturday: Open Tower Day

Open Tower Day at St Mary's Church in Bridport will be held from 10am and 2pm on Saturday, September 2. See the ringing chamber and clock room not usually open to the public. Homemade cake and coffee available, Free entry but donations to church funds welcome.
