Dorset residents are being urged to register to vote in order to have their say in elections in May.

The Dorset Police and Crime Commissioner election will take place on Thursday, May 6 and in order to vote, residents must be on the electoral register. Some town and parish council by-elections and neighbourhood plan referendums are also taking place.

A man has been jailed for racially abusing and spitting toward a family visiting Bridport.

Daniel Lavery, aged 39 and of South Walk, Bridport, was sentenced at Weymouth Magistrates' Court on Thursday, March 25 after admitting offences of using racially aggravated threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour with intent to cause fear of or provoke unlawful violence and using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour with intent to cause harassment, alarm or distress. He was sentenced to 14 weeks in prison.

An idea for a town centre hub for groups, charities and organisations has been put forward by a Bridport town councillor.

Councillor Rose Allwork said that it would be good to have a shop on the high street where the numerous groups in the town could show what they do, host activities and show skills, giving an example of a similar thing happening in Barking and Dagenham.
